Working with a supplier abroad
Distance is managed by keeping one point of contact and by front-loading the decisions. A project engineer is assigned at quotation and stays with the program, so design questions are answered by someone who has seen the part rather than routed through a sales desk. Reviews run over a shared screen with the CAD open, in the morning US time or the afternoon European time.
Documentation travels with the parts rather than following them. A shipment includes the inspection report for the batch, material certificates where the order calls for them, and the packing list matched to the purchase order lines, so receiving inspection can be completed without waiting on email.
